A TEENAGER is too frightened to go out alone after being pushed to the ground in Newbridge.

Ceri-Anne Woodland, 14, was walking through an alley at the back of Panteg Terrace at around 6.30pm on Monday when someone pushed her to the ground.

The Newbridge Comprehensive pupil was on her way to meet a friend and was texting her friend on her phone when she was pushed from behind.

Mum Sally Hellings said she scraped her knees but managed to get back up.

Miss Hellings said her daughter was then grabbed by the hood of her jacket and she fell on the floor again.

She started shouting and managed to get up and ran off.

Ceri-Anne got to Hill Street and phoned her mum, who came to collect her and reported it to the police.

Miss Hellings, 32, said: “She was a mess, she was shaking all over. I don’t think she wants to go out now.

She’s petrified at the moment.”

Miss Hellings said they don’t know what the person’s intentions were but she wanted to warn parents about what happened and for them to make sure their children are not out alone at the moment.

She said: “So many teenagers go out on their own. That’s why I thought the public had a right to know.

Someone might not be as lucky to get away next time.”

Gwent Police is appealing for information about what happened.

They said the person was described as wearing a drawstring hood around their face and black trousers.

Anyone with information should call Gwent Police on 101.
