MORE than 30 cyclists helped to raise around £1,500 by taking part in a charity bike ride in Newbridge last month.
The Newbridge RFC charity bike ride saw entrants complete a 20km course in aid of Velindre Cancer Centre on June 30.
Former Wales international Lloyd Burns launched the ride, which was completed by all riders, including Peter Francombe, who broke his hand during the event following a fall. Despite his injury, he went on to complete the ride.
Friends Mark Shepherd, 38, and Rhodri Evans, 36, organised the event to raise funds for their trek with Legends Appeal, which will see them join a team of intrepid trekkers to climb Mount Kilamanjaro next year.
Mr Shepherd, who runs companies’ Accentuate Design and The Events Room and Mr Evans, a patent examiner at the Intellectual Property Office, Newport, must raise £20,000 between them to take part in the event in September 2013. For details, visit http://wwwjustgiving.com/mr-kilimanjaro
