NEWPORT’S Big Splash was a big hit withY 16,000 people joining in the fun over the weekend.

Despite the threat of bad weather, the huge family event drew in the crowds as people young and old enjoyed a variety of entertainment including a live music stage, street entertainers and a stunning firework spectacular.

The event was kicked off on Friday by live band RSVP and local dancers with a giant Bhangra dance off.

Entertainment on Saturday and Sunday then included street acts, live music, a fairground and food stalls.

More than 800 free tickets were also given away for theatre shows, film screenings or taster dance sessions at The Riverfront.

An end of day spectacular on Saturday which included a floating heliosphere, acrobats, fire jugglers and fireworks was watched by more than 4,000 people alone.

Sunday saw Parklife relocated to Rodney Parade and the family fun day brought out thousands again for free fun sporting activities and entertainment.

More than 800 tickets were also sold for The Legends of Wu Tang gig at Newport Centre on Monday.

Big Splash 2013 is now set to take place in June next year.
