A FORMER soldier lost his temper when a woman he fancied told him she was pregnant by another man, a court heard.

James Cziraki, 22, drove to a flat where he knew the other man would be and tried to smash the door down, Gloucester Crown Court heard.

Cziraki, of Penda Place, Sedbury, admitted affray and damaging property on May 15.

Prosecutor Lisa Hennessy said the target of his anger, Gareth Worth, was in a flat in Lydney, Gloucestershire, with his current girlfriend, Nicole Scott.

Mrs Hennessy told the court Cziraki was with a girl he was fond of. She told him she was pregnant by Mr Worth and Cziraki became angry. He went to the flat with a baseball bat and started beating at the door and screaming threats before coming to his senses and leaving.

Cziraki, who was on parole from prison at the time of the incident, was jailed for eight months and judge Jamie Tabor QC said he was a 'lucky man' that the concurrent eight-month sentence would not add a day to his time in prison because he has been recalled to prison to complete the term he received for attempted robbery, which runs until October next year.

Stephen Thomas, defending, said: "He accepts full responsibility. The incident lasted only a short time and no-one was hurt. He regrets his behaviour."
