GWENT rock band Feeder lit up the night sky at a festival in Ebbw Vale held over the weekend.

The Steelhouse Festival held at Hafod-y-Dafal farm gave three days of rock classics to audiences, with many taking the opportunity to camp over the weekend in full festival style.

The festival kicked off on Friday night with Kiss tribute act Dressed to Kill, Thin Lizzy tribute act Dizzy Lizzy and Guns 2 Roses, the Guns n’ Roses tribute act.

The three big names for Saturday night were The Union, Gun and headliners Feeder – a homecoming to Gwent for Chepstow-raised frontman Grant Nicholas.

Gun held their own despite the sudden change in climate that brought the rain and the 1,000-strong crowd huddled in blankets and continued to jump along with the songs.

As darkness descended over the festival ground, that also had fairground rides and stalls, Feeder took to the stage and the crowd swelled to over 2,500 people.

The crowd who sung and bounced along were treated to Feeder’s classics including the hit Buck Rogers, as well as tracks from their new album Generation Freakshow.

Event organiser Sally-Ann Evans, of the company Limeface, said: “We are really pleased with how everything has gone. We were expecting around 3,000 people at the festival but the amount of walk-ins we had over the weekend was much bigger than our expectations.

“We attracted a lot of locals but also people from across the UK and Europe who are attracted to classic rock festivals.

“Everyone had a great time despite the patch of rain that we had but that’s expected at a British festival and it didn’t dampen the mood.”

Last night, Reef closed the show, with tracks from their number one album Glow, such as the hit Place Your Hands.

Other bands that made an appearance over the weekend included Revoker, The Dirty Youth, Gentleman’s Pistols, Prosperina, Reef, The Answer, Saint Jude, Million $ Reload, Bonafide, Henry’s Funeral Shoe, Sons Of Icarus and Hangfire.

Miss Evans added: “We attracted a varied crowd of young and old and this is exactly what we envisioned.

“The three nights have attracted completely different crowds and we have had positive feedback from the bands that performed.”
