A CWMBRAN man is banned from all pubs and clubs in the town until next July, under the first Drinking Banning Order (DBO) issued in Torfaen.

The order was imposed on 24-year-old Timothy Cantello, of Newton Wynd, Fairwater, after he was found guilty of violent disorder following a fight with another man in Cwmbran town centre on March 31.

Cantello’s previous record for violence while under the influence of alcohol was taken into account. He is also serving a community order and a three-month 9pm-5am curfewthat includes electronic tagging.

The ruling, which runs until July 9 next year, bans Cantello from entering the 47 pubs and clubs across Cwmbran. A breach could cost him a fine up to £2,500.

All licensed premises have received his photo through the Pubwatch scheme.

“Gwent Police will not tolerate individuals who repeatedly cause crime or disorder while under the influence of alcohol and we will use legislation to curtail such behaviour,”

said licensing officer Jim Aitken.

“This order also supports the hard work of the Business Crime Partnership Pubwatch scheme, which aims to deal with people who act irresponsibly and violently in licensed premises by excluding them from member premises.

DBOs were introduced in 2009, to tackle alcohol-related crime and disorder and protect others from such behaviour.

They are civil orders, similar to ASBOs, and can be imposed from two months to two years, through the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006
