SOUTH WALES rockers, Kids in Glass Houses have thrown their weight behind a campaign to keep Newport’s Le Pub a live music venue.

The five-piece, will play the Caxton Place venue on Sunday (August 5) with all proceeds going to the #savelepub appeal.

The band will play hit album Smart Casual in full including hits Saturday, Give Me What I Want and opener Fisticuffs, which the boys filmed the video for in Le Pub.

Aled Phillips, lead singer from the band, said: "It was really important for us to help Le Pub's cause in any way we could, the same way they supported us when we needed it in the early days.

I've spent some of the best nights of my life there with great friends and great music.

We won't let Le Pub go without a fight. South Wales and the UK music scene needs it."

Sam Harries, manager of the venue for the past 14 years and South Wales promoters Sŵn are looking to raise £20,000 to help them buy the venue and make sure it remains a launch pad for bands from across the region.

But as previously reported in the Argus, under the terms of the Crowdfunder website they are using to raise donations, they must reach their target by Monday (August 6) or all the money raised so far will be automatically refunded.

At the most recent count they had raised £4,778, just 24% of their target.

Co-founder of Sŵn Festival, John Rostron, said: "It's an incredible show of support from Kids In Glass Houses who, in an instant, have contributed over £1500 to the fund through ticket sales and are creating a buzz in this last week of the campaign to save le pub.

Every donation, including those logging in and donating just a pound, is a help, and a show from the people who really care about Newport or music in South Wales, or, in the case of Kids in Glass Houses, both.

Sunday will be a terrific gig. Let's hope that it spurs enough people to put their hand in their pockets to save the venue."
