UNSUNG heroes in Newport are set for a deserved night in the spotlight in September, as the King’s Church holds its third annual Night Of Honour awards.

The church is teaming up with the Argus once more to find those selfless people whose efforts on behalf of their families, their community, or a community group or charity are worthy of special praise.

But to find as many nominees as possible for the seven Night Of Honour awards available we need to hear from you, our readers.

The categories are: Neighbour of the Year; Young Person of the Year; Above and Beyond Award, for someone who has gone that extra mile; Parent of the Year; Public Service Superhero; Community Organisation of the Year; and Volunteer of the Year.

Hundreds of nominations were received last year as people in the city embraced the idea of saying a special thank-you to those in Newport who are, often quietly and unnoticed, making a positive difference for others.

The Night Of Honour will be held at the King’s Church on Sunday, September 23, from 6pm. Entry will be free and the King’s Church is inviting everyone along to help laud the city’s heroes.

An audience of more than 500 is anticipated for the event, with music and comedy also on the bill, and special guest Bobby Ball.

HOW TO NOMINATE AN UNSUNG HERO

● Click the website link to www.kingschurch. org.uk

● Nominations must be submitted by 1pm on Friday, August 31.

● Winners will be selected by a panel involving members of the community such as police officers, businessmen and public servants.

“All nominees will be invited to a VIP reception before the event,” said Hayley Corley, of the King’s Church.

“In reality, everyone who is nominated is a winner, and we will celebrate the night as such.”
