TALENTED teenage star Maya Burchell-Haslett, from Usk, is due to perform as part of the National Youth Choir of Wales at the Royal Albert Hall.

Ms Burchell-Haslett has been chosen to perform with the choir at the prestigious venue today.

She is the only representative from Monmouthshire within the choir, which is made up of 70 young men and women.

The choir will perform Bernstein’s Mass at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC National Chorus of Wales for this season’s BBC Proms.

She has also performed with the choir at other venues across the country, including Llandaff Cathedral, in Cardiff, on July 28.

Miss Burchell-Haslett said: “It is such a great honour to be picked to sing for Wales and to represent Monmouthshire”.

She also thanked the Roger Edwards Educational Trust, based in Usk, for providing her with a grant to cover the costs of being involved in the choir.

The former Caerleon Comprehensive School pupil is aiming to elaborate on an already promising musical career, having completed her first year of studying for a music degree at University College Falmouth.

Not only this, but she has already identified herself as a singer-songwriter.

She has recorded two CD albums and has performed with the likes of Ed Sheeran at last year’s Croissant Neuf Summer Party in Usk, where she will be performing again this summer.

The teenager also regularly performs with local folk group Stormus and has been a longterm member of numerous choirs, including the Greater Gwent Youth Brass Band, the Usk Youth Brass Band and the Youth Choir.
