A TEENAGE musician is preparing to fine tune her performance for one of the world's most prestigious classical music festivals.

Trombonist Rhiannon Symonds is playing at the BBC Proms next weekend.

The 15-year-old Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls pupil will showcase her talent at London's Royal Albert Hall with the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain, in Prom No. 40 of the famed Henry Wood Promenade Series.

Sunday's performance comes three years after the talented year ten student passed her grade eight exam with distinction in March 2009.

At the age of 13 she become the youngest trombonist in the UK to become an Associate of the Trinity College London and last November she was runner-up in the Arts Category of AXA Ambition Awards.

The teenager, who started playing the trombone around six years ago, has already played at the Royal Albert Hall four times for the National Festival of Music for Youth Schools Proms.

"Playing at the BBC Proms is incredible, I certainly didn’t expect to be doing it so soon in my playing career and it’s definitely given me the bug to pursue music as an occupation now,” she said.

The National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain’s Prom will be live on BBC Radio 3 from 3pm on Sunday.
