THE Severn Crossings face industrial action next week as around 70 toll booth staff at both Severn bridges are set to impose an overtime ban and hold a 24-hour strike.

Talks will continue tomorrow between Unite and Severn River Crossing (SRC).

The overtime ban and work-to-rule is due to start at 5.55am on Tuesday, 21 August and will be continuous. The 24-hour strike will start on Friday (24 August) morning at 5.55am and end at 5.55am on Saturday (25 August).

The toll booth staff voted for industrial action in a dispute over changes to shift patterns proposed by the SRC’s management.

Unite regional officer, Jeff Woods said: “The management has remained intransigent in negotiations. The new shifts proposed would make a mockery of our members’ work-life balance, so as a last resort they have voted to take strike action.

“Both Unite and the management are committed to finding a solution to the dispute and both sides are working hard to achieve a resolution.”
