A MARKHAM couple celebrated 70 years of marriage this week.

Cyril and Mary Benson marked their 70th wedding anniversary on August 17.

Mr and Mrs Benson, of Abernant Road, were married at Bedwellty Church.

Mr Benson, 91, worked for the National Coal Board and he and his wife were very active members of their local congregational church in Markham up until recently.

The couple have two daughters, seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Daughter Anne Rowe said her parents are very devoted to each other and have hardly spent a day apart except for Mr Benson's service in the Second World War in India from 1942 to the end of the war.

Argoed councillor Leon Gardiner informed Caerphilly council about the special occasion and Mr and Mrs Benson were visited by deputy mayor Michael Gray.
