Piece of meteorite said to have fallen in Cwmbran

THERE are reports this morning that a large bang heard in Cwmbran last night was part of a meteorite shower hitting the area.

Argus readers are reporting hearing what they initially thought was an explosion at around midnight.

There was a meteorite shower reported over east Wales and west Shropshire, and it is thought that a piece of meteor fell in the the area.

One woman in Newport told the Argus she heard the noise and thought there had been a lorry crash. Gwent Police said they had three calls over the boom.

i would like to think there is proof of this but i am friends with someone who heard the bang and couldn't see a fire or anything so im sure it is true that it was a meteorite. but more evidence would be essential.

ive looked it up on other news sites and it is said to be that it didnt land in cwmbran it was the size of a golf ball and exploded over the area thats by what i have found so far maybe i will find more news on this but thats it so far.

I'm in Pontypool. At 11:15 pm I was outside and heard a loud double bang, with a longish rumbling fadeout. I thought it was a sonic boom - it was definitely an unusual sound.

I am in Crosskeys, at 11pm
Last night I saw a big ball of light which was orange/yellow and turned to white as it flew through the sky, it had a heat trail which was ever so slightly green. I then heard a loud rumble just after it went over the mountain towards Cwmbran. It looked like a big star with a gas/heat trail. It was great!

No, a meteorite hits the ground which is what makes it a meteorite. If it burns up in the atmosphere, it's a meteor.
