Boys savagely kick rabbit in St Mellons
4:22pm Monday 3rd September 2012 in News
A pet rabbit's leg was broken after it was savagely kicked and beaten in St Mellons.
The incident took place in the evening of August 28 in Coleford Drive. Two blonde haired boys, thought to be around 11 years old, were seen kicking the animal four times before running in the direction of Willowbrook Drive.
Despite sustaining a broken leg and facial injuries, the animal is likely to make a full recovery.
Nicola Johnson, an RSPCA inspector said: "This was an act of mindless cruelty and it's vital that someone helps us trace these youths.
"The x-ray shows that the rabbit's leg snapped completely under the savage pressure of the attack. Somebody in the area must know something about this incident and I would urge them to make contact immediately."
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the RSPCA inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018. All calls are confidential.

These little "darlings" were obviously very bored and were rather tired of their rooms which generally bristle with the latest technology.
I would blame Newport Council for not providing enough leisure centres or youth clubs or playing fields so the little angels can use up some energy!!!!
Really, where are the stupid parents? For God's sake get hold of your brats and bring them up properly. Suggest they join the Boy Scouts or train them to think of others before their sadistic little selves.
Read "Lord of the Flies", for an example of how boys can behave when they are left to their own devices. (Girls too, of course).

As for snapping the legs of the perpetrators, a little too strong and would never happen in this day and age. Wanton cruelty to animals is a warning sign however (as a previous commenter pointed out, to deeper rooted and dangerous psychological/sociol
ogical disorders ) and should be dealt with seriously. If the person who carried out this act is found then measures must be taken to ensure that it cannot happen again.

Blame everybody but yourself, especially the Tory Government.
The previous Labour Government who were in power for 13 YEARS did a good job ruining the country with their left-wing namby pamby attitude.
We need to bring back discipline and respect which is sorely lacking in our
society today.

I have a rabbit and I was looking to move to the St Mellons Area, not any more! These very evil children need to be found and grounded till they are 35!

Don't hold your breath, crosskeysgirl18. No doubt if they are ever caught, (which is highly unlikely) they will simply be given a few stern words by the Sargent on duty at the time, and after they feign remorse will be given a child caution (which will be wiped at age 18) and be free to run off laughing to each other and their friends about the whole incident. Is this really what our society is coming to? Would love to meet the parents (or parent, let's not be too optimistic here) and see what they have to say about the whole thing. I should imagine we would start hearing cries of "but there's nothing for them to do around here", "where are the youth clubs" amongst other rhetorical, clichéd ramblings.

I don't believe it myself - never have. Kids should have a bit of healthy neglect and get about and find their own entertainment; be resourceful; play football; go for bike rides in the country; join an organisation. Even help parents round the house. Any of these pastimes will ensure that kids grow up to be decent citizens. One can but hope!

Carrot's - thanks for agreeing with me but not too sure about eating the rabbit pie though. But thugs like these deserve the death sentence. They don't deserve to live for killing a creature on their own terms - that IS animal cruelty!
