AN 18-YEAR-OLD man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of breach of the peace following the naked swimming incident in the River Usk.

Emergency services were called to the riverbank near Castle Bingo, in Usk Way at 3.41pm on Tuesday after reports that a man was in distress.

Residents watched the drama unfold from outside their homes as the nude swimmer made his way to shore.

He was thrown a towel to cover his modesty and rescue lines were thrown to down to help him climb a slippery mud bank.

The man is in police custody.
