Man attacked in his home by burglars
2:35pm Monday 10th September 2012 in News
By Ruth Mansfield
A NEWPORT man is in hospital with head injuries following an aggravated burglary at his home.
The man was at his home at The Gorelands, in the Catsash area, when he was assaulted during a burglary at around 3am yesterday.
He is in hospital in a stable condition. A woman was also in the home at the time but was not injured.
The offenders are described as a man in his mid 30s with short, dark hair, wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans and a woman in her early 20s with long dark hair tied back, wearing a light grey top, black trousers and calf-high black boots.
Both were last seen in the Pill area of Newport at around 7.15am yesterday.
Police are still stationed outside the property while investigations take place.
Anyone with any information is asked to call 101 or to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Think about it: if you were the burglar facing down a householder, you have a choice:
1.
Give them a slap and escape leaving them alive and able to give police a description. Sentance if caught: life in prison.
2.
Kill them leaving no eye witnesses.Sentance if caught: life in prison.
If the punishment is the same for both options, you can imagine them going for the one that leaves them least likely to be caught.

What about not breaking in at all then there wouldn't need to be a choice between (1) or (2).
My sympathies to the homeowners and I hope the burgulars are caught and locked up.

If the article was just using "aggravated" as a handy phrase then you could be right but entering intending to do GBH can also be "aggravated" and that's not a slap.
Murders can always be recalled , but that doesn't seem to have happened with the Oxfordshire ambulance Chief yet, does it?

However, there are burglars and we might be face to face with them one day; should that happen, what's going on in their heads as they look back at me will be... well, i would suggest it would be the most important piece of information i could ever know.

Sorry Gareth. Aggravated burglary is a technical term and that was what I was talking about i.e. entering as a trespasser with a weapon of offence, etc.

The advice from Riley 2012 would be the best or just get out of the house if poss. until police arrive.
The scaremongering remarks by Dodo777 concerning immigrants - we don't know the ethnicity of those reponsible yet & on benefits? is this what the unemployed get up to?.
In the meantime all the best & speedy recovery to the homeowners

The criminal justice system does not work, your run of the mill inadequate psycopath does not care, and I don't know where the apostrophe goes in the word does'nt, hence the does not's. While I'm about it, my Newport dog crap story comment disappeared a couple of weeks ago. Has anyone seen it. If you have, give me a shout and I'll pop by and clear it up.
