NEWPORT City skatepark was officially opened on Friday despite torrential rain.

Situated in Tredegar Park, the improved skatepark boasts some of the newest and best facilities in Wales.

The park, which was opened by Mayor John Guy, boasts a main clamshell bowl section, street section, peanut bowl and bike jump.

Thanks to a grant from Sport Wales, the skatepark will be floodlit and will operate between 9am and 9pm throughout the year.

The skatepark replaces the one that was located at Newport International Sports Village after the site became part of the National Football centre.

The park caters for all levels, from supervised five year olds to expert skaters.

Cllr Debbie Wilcox, cabinet member for leisure and culture, said: “The new skatepark has something for everyone, from beginners to experts, and there are lots of challenging sections that will really test skater’s skills.

“It is set to become a popular city attraction and I hope users enjoy using the facility.”
