Firearms officers in arrest on George Street in Newport

A 37-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm in Newport this afternoon.
A caller to Gwent Police received a report that a man had been seen in the George Street area with an "object" that believed might have been a firearm, according to a police spokesman.
Firearms officers attended the scene at 11.15am and arrested the man – he is currently in custody.
UPDATE: 1.41pm
Residents say three marked police cars and one unmarked car pulled over and arrested a driver.

EYEWITNESSES have reported armed police outside George Street furnishers in Newport this afternoon.
