A Newport man suffered serious injuries to his pelvis and legs after this morning's crash at the Ebbw Bridge roundabout in Duffryn.
The man, who was riding a silver Yamaha scooter as taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital after he collided with a white Mercedes lorry.
The two Newport-bound lanes of the A48 between the M4 roundabout at Tredegar Park and the Ebbw Bridge roundabout remain closed while emergency services are at the scene and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Officers were called to the incident at around 8.50 this morning.

Eyewitnesses say the incident involved a car and a scooter. The stretch of road closed is the Newport-bound side of the A48 between the Ebbw Bridge roundabout in Duffryn and the Tredegar Park.

A CRASH in Newport involving two vehicles has closed part of the SDR this morning.
The stretch between the Ebbw Bridge roundabout in Duffryn and the Tredegar Park junction of the M4.
An ambulance is on the scene and queueing traffic is reported.
