RESIDENTS living in three Abergavenny roads say they are fed up with drivers using them as a rat run.
More than 100 people from Stanhope Street, Avenue Road and Chapel Road signed a petition demanding that Monmouthshire Council investigate how traffic using the streets as a short cut can be reduced.
Drivers using Brecon Road cut through Chapel Road, Stanhope Street and The Avenue in an attempt to avoid queues in Brecon Road or to take time off their journey by less than 100 yards.
Among the concerns are the speed and noise of vehicles, damage to wing mirrors of cars parked on the side of the road and the impatience shown by drivers when residents are unloading their shopping or children.
Local councillor Paul Jordan handed the petition to the chairwoman of Monmouthshire Council, Councillor Maureen Powell, at a meeting of all councillors at the Shire Hall, Monmouth, last week.
