A HOVERCRAFT is not the first form of transport that comes to mind when you think of a mayor – but Newport’s Cllr John Guy got his chance to become a hovercraft pilot at a charity event held at Rogerstone Welfare Grounds.
The event raised money for his charities – the Alzheimer’s Society and St David’s Hospice Care.
The hovercrafts were supplied by High Cross Hovercraft Ltd, with people offered the chance to either drive or be a passenger.
Cllr Guy said: “I certainly never thought I would have a lesson learning to drive a hovercraft during my mayoral year. It is completely different from driving a car. Everyone who had a flight or lesson thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
He added: “Thank you to everyone who supported this event.”
