A TERMINALLY ill man in a motorised wheelchair who was robbed at knifepoint in Newport last month is appealing for the public to help catch his attackers.

Michael Gregory, 57, from Newport, was robbed near the George Street Bridge, in the city on September 12.

Mr Gregory, who suffers from multiple sclerosis and is terminally ill, was travelling from the Millennium Footbridge along the riverside path towards Lysaght Village between 9.45pm and 10pm when he was approached by two men riding silver bicycles.

The men threatened him with a knife, pushed him, and took a quantity of cash from him. They then made off on their bikes towards Corporation Road.

Mr Gregory received bruising around his medical stomach pump after his head was pulled down by one of the men. He was kept in the Royal Gwent Hospital overnight.

Mr Gregory said: “I keep thinking that I’ve lost and they’ve won.

They frightened me and I haven’t had a good day since it happened.

If anyone knows who is responsible then please contact the police.”

The first man is described by police as Asian, in his twenties, 5ft 8in tall and of average build, wearing a baggy grey hooded top and grey tracksuit bottoms.

The second is described as Asian, in his twenties, 5ft 8in tall, average build, with a round face, stubble and dark eyes, wearing a grey tracksuit top with a Nike logo, grey tracksuit bottoms with white stripes and white trainers.

Detective Superintendent Ian Roberts said: “This is a despicable and cowardly crime.

“A victim has been targeted and left terrified by two offenders who have little or no regard for the most vulnerable people in our society.”
