OLYMPIC silver medalist Fred Evans was back in his St Joseph’s training base last week to pass on some tips to youngsters keen to follow in his footsteps.
Mr Evans was back in Newport to give a masterclass to young members of the boxing club where he learned the ropes.
He said: “I always love getting the opportunity to talk to youngsters about my sport and get them to love boxing as much as I do.
“The Olympics and Paralympics were so inspirational for the whole country and I’m all for giving kids the opportunity to get involved in sport.”
The event was put on by the National Lottery to celebrate its investment in elite athletes like Evans and its support of grassroots projects such as the St Joseph’s club.
Mr Evans praised the Lottery, saying: “Without National Lottery funding I wouldn’t be able to compete at the level I do.”
