IF you want a ‘talking’ dog, a husky looks to be the breed for you, as hot on the paws of Milo, Cwmbran’s ‘talking’ husky, comes Newport’s very own Jake.

Strictly speaking, nine-month-old Jake is a husky-malamute cross, but shares not only part of his breed with Cwmbran’s Milo, who we recently featured, but also his party piece.

Jake, who lives with the Crosbie family in Allt-yr-Yn, Newport, likes to show his appreciation to his family by ‘telling’ them: “I love you.”

Mum Julia, 43, read our story about Milo and told one of her friends “our dog can do that.”

She didn’t believe her so Julia decided to send Jake viral and uploaded a video from her phone of the loving pet barking his appreciation to YouTube.

It’s safe to say he’s not the most softly spoken, but the sentiment is certainly appreciated by the family.

“Huskies are very vocal, they like to howl a lot,”

explains Mrs Crosbie, “but one day me and my daughter, Jess, heard him doing it and I said to her ‘doesn’t that sound like I love you?’ Now we say it to him and he tells us it back.”

Mrs Crosbie would like him to expand his vocabulary a little though and perhaps learn some manners.

“He is very cheeky,” she says, “I’m convinced he would do or say anything for a piece of ham. You turn your back for a second and he’ll have your food off the work surface because he is big enough to get his head up there and if I leave a cup of tea anywhere, that’s it he’ll drink it. So I think please would be a very good word for him to learn!” she jokes.

Mrs Crosbie did want to stress that while she loved their Husky, they can be hard work and urged people to do their research before buying one. Eighteen-year-old son Sean does a paper round delivering the Argus and sometimes 15-year-old Jess, who is Jake’s owner, brings Jake along to help deliver the paper, so if you see him at your door, stop and have a chat.
