Just weeks after completing an £8m expansion at its data centre campus in Newport, Next Generation Data has announced around 100 local contractors are now back on site to commence a £10m new build project following its winning of a major contract from a leading global company.

The latest dedicated self-contained hall, to be delivered before Christmas, will provide the scale and technical infrastructure necessary for supporting the new customer’s immediate and longer-term requirements and will be the 19th Data Hall at the facility.

In what has already been a record sales year for NGD, this latest contract follows the £8M expansion phase completed earlier this year for five additional data halls which have now all been sold. These were for accommodating several multinational customers while meeting extra demand for space from local businesses and channel partners.

“This has been an exceptional year for NGD and 2016 promises to be even better. It seems our proposition, focused on ample space and power, is proving more and more attractive to the global market.

NGD’s facility is one of the few with the scale and power available to meet accelerating demand for cloud, web, big data and other data intensive computing activities,” said Simon Taylor, Chairman, Next Generation Data.

NGD’s giant data centre campus, located between Newport and Cardiff, was opened six years ago and has already seen the company invest more than £30M in creating the 750,000 sq ft world-class facility.

While supporting the IT infrastructure and data storage needs of various UK government and multinational IT service provider organisations NGD also serves local businesses in Wales requiring modern and more secure data hosting and storage facilities to help them grow.

NGD Europe is able to support High Density Environments for such power-hungry and intensive applications as Big Data, Cloud Computing, Super Computing and Grid Computing. It is ideally suited to large enterprise organisations wishing to consolidate their existing space- or power-restricted data centre operations, as well as service providers and systems integrators operating single or multiple racks.

Capable of housing up to 19,000 server racks, NGD Europe is a purpose-built tier 3 carrier-neutral facility offering 750,000 sq ft of highly secure and cost-effective space. Racks can be arranged into self-contained and shared data halls of various sizes all with independent services, resilient power and cooling systems. NGD Europe’s environmentally-friendly high level technology infrastructure has been designed to meet and exceed the ever increasing demand for more computing power. Its many features include a 180 MVA 100 per cent renewable energy power supply connected directly to the super grid via an on-site sub-station. There are also multiple on-site high-speed, low latency carrier interconnects.
