A NEW dessert van selling sweet treats opened in Caerleon this month and is already a hit with locals.

Chunks dessert van opened last Friday, June 1 outside El Gordo’s Seafood and Grill in Ponthir and serves all sorts of treats.

The vehicle was previously a kebab van but has recently been converted into a dessert van which has become a popular addition to the area.

Cameron Lee, owner of Chunk's desserts said: “My dad had bought an old kebab van last year but didn’t have enough time to work it while running the restaurants.

“I came up with the idea of making takeaway desserts from a van, so I decided to buy it off my dad and start up my own little venture.

“My parents have helped me so much with it and I couldn’t have done it without them, I opened the van last Friday and it has been going great.”

The van sells popular desserts such as Churros, ice cream sundaes, waffles, chocolate fudge brownies and 99p ice cream cones.

As temperatures continue to rise across Gwent, Mr Lee has seen a surge in business since opening seven days ago.

He added: “It is getting more popular, especially when the sun is out as last night was by far the busiest, I have been so fingers crossed it continues.

“So far, I have had lots of great feedback from customers and the response I have had on social media and general chats with people have been very positive.”

Prices for desserts range between £3 - £5.50, with the van even selling 99p ice cream cones at the price of 99p.

He added: “Outside El Gordo’s is my main location for the van, but I am looking to take the van to events, shows and festivals.”

Opening hours are Monday and Tuesday 3.30pm – 10pm, Wednesday and Thursday 3.30 – 10.00pm, Friday 3.30pm – 10.30pm, Saturday 5.00pm – 10.30 with it closed on Sundays.
