REBEL IN ROGERSTONE: It was great to visit the new Tiny Rebel premises in Rogerstone and to learn that the company has created over 30 jobs locally so far, and hiring on average one new staff member a week.

Here’s what Bradley and Gazz, co-founders of Tiny Rebel had to say:

“Hi - it’s Brad and Gazz from Tiny Rebel Brewery here. We wanted to update you about a few developments over at the new facility we’re currently building in Wern Industrial Estate. We relocated from Maesglas Industrial Estate to Rogerstone in January 2017 to not just increase our production but to also create a unique public space complete with a brewery shop, open for brewery tours and masterclass tasting sessions, an events space that can accommodate 350 people standing, a kitchen, outdoor area and finally a bar that serves not just the beers like Cwtch but all of our prototype beers that we are continuously developing and would love your feedback on! So what’s going on behind the scenes? The spacious new brewery site has made it possible to install a canning line, a bottling line and increase our beer production to a possible 9 million pints annually. That’s a lot of beer but this will all help us to keep up with the high demand for our products and also help fly the flag internationally for Newport. We are excited about continuing to grow nationally and globally, and we’ll always remain strongly embedded in our locality and in our Welsh heritage. We aim to open to the public at the start of July, and look forward to seeing you there.”

If you have any questions about the new site, job opportunities or anything Tiny Rebel related, e-mail Bradley@tinyrebel.co.uk

After the recent job losses at Avana it’s great to see this fabulous Newport brand going from strength to strength, thanks for investing in Rogerstone guys.

LEGO WANTED: It was national autism week last week, and Rogerstone charity ‘technology club fyd’ which meets every Friday at the Rivermead Centre is asking for donations of Lego.

The club which helps provide tech for kids with a diagnosis of ASD help build their social interaction skills where they are supported in a safe environment  has been running for several months, the donations would be most welcome, so if you have sets and they are in a good condition mail techclubnewport@outlook.co.uk or call Moira Hooking’s on 07938 813306.

CANAL DREDGING: Several neighbours have been in touch with reference to the waste on the banks of our canal from the recent dredging.

The news is that the debris will be removed depending on ground conditions over the next three weeks until completion.

RISE UP, AND VOTE: In case you haven’t noticed, the local council elections are coming up on the May 4. The important thing is to vote.
If you haven’t yet you can register to vote by going to gov.uk/registertovote and in Newport by calling 01633 210742.
The deadline for the local elections is April 13 so do it today and make sure you have your say.

HAVE YOU GOT A CLASSIC?: A ‘festival of local classic cars’ show is coming to our city centre on June 10,  so all classic car owners are invited to to get involved.

Newport’s also got a great ‘Mod’ sub culture and it’ll also be cool to see scooters in all their glory at the event.

If you want to show off your classic, contact John Gibbons on 07854574019 or johngibbon@fsmail.net.

CARNIVAL/FESTIVAL TIME: Carnival/Festival is coming back, soon. It all started with a post on a Rogerstone community Facebook group then the idea grew and it was decided that the festival/carnival would start in 2018 allowing the Welfare Grounds the time needed for the drainage works to settle.

It was also discussed that the format of the day would be the more traditional village fete and not to have fairground rides etc. aside from maybe some small rides for little children.

Next meeting to be held on October 12 at 7.30pm to set up the committee and the planning will begin thanks to locals Lara, for the original post, Laura, Val, Paula, Joey, Kirsty, Kath, Moira, Rebecca, Jillian, Anne, June, Michelle and everyone for getting involved. Apologies if not all names are included.

CRICKET TIME: Rogerstone Welfare Cricket Club will again be providing a full program of Youth Cricket at the Welfare grounds.

Firstly the club is a registered centre for the exciting nationwide All Stars Cricket soft ball program for 5 -8 year olds.

TIP SHOP DOUBLES IN SIZE: None of us like to throw away stuff we think might be useful to someone else. It’s a very natural reaction, and one reason why the Tip Shop has doubled in size this spring.

If you’re doing a spring clean chances are you will head down to the “Household Waste Recycling Centre” (the tip to most of us).
If you haven’t been down recently, after you’ve been up on the ramp and are heading out you will pass the Tip Shop on your left.
Let’s be honest – it’s a seven day a week car boot sale. And that is why it’s so popular.

People are always amazed at what people throw away, but perhaps its not just wanton waste. We’ve all bought or been given items we’ve never actually used – but we’ve hung onto them because we can’t bring ourselves to simply throw them away. Getting rid of stuff can feel liberating, and giving it a chance to go to a new home where it might actually be used adds to that feel good factor.

So here’s a tip for when you next do a clear out: load the stuff that might be reusable into the car first and then the real rubbish next. That way when you get to the tip you can unload your general non useable waste first and then drive round to the Tip Shop.

A word of warning.  Wastesavers holds no responsibility for people coming down the Tip Shop and leaving with more stuff than they brought down. See wastesavers.co.uk/reuse/shop.
