AWARD: The Rotary Club of St Woolos Newport has bestowed upon one of our club members, Rotarian Robert Tovey a Paul Harris Fellowship, the equivalent of an ‘MBE’ within Rotary, at a recent club meeting.

The citation for this prestigious award was for his long and distinguished service to his club, and for his consistent hard work for the club during his 33 year membership of Rotary, most recently as the chairman of our busy Community Service committee.

A founding member when the club was established in 1984, he also served as president in 1997/98, and 2 years as club secretary from 1990 - 1992. In his grateful acceptance speech, Rob revealed to his fellow members that he follows in his father’s footsteps as a recipient of this prestigious Rotary award.

Back in 1987, Rob had proudly accompanied him when he was presented with his own Paul Harris Fellowship award at the 50th anniversary charter dinner of the Rotary Club of Barry, of which he was a long-serving member.

Definitely a proud and honourable example of ‘keeping it in the family’!
