CONCERT: A full house enjoyed another successful Annual Concert that was held on Saturday July 15 at Coleg Gwent, Crosskeys.

The choir set the tone for the evening by opening with Gilbert and Sullivan’s Entrance and March of the Peers followed by the comic With Cat Like Tread.

The programme continued with Elgar’s solemn and splendid The Wanderer and Feasting I Watch and Blow, Blow Thy Winter Wind by John Rutter.

The first half of the concert concluded with songs from the shows. After the interval the choir performed religious and sacred music including Requiem Aeternam an arrangement by the choirs musical director Geraint Davies.

Spirituals followed with the conclusion of the evening being a rousing performance of Y Tangnefeddwyr which describes one man’s thoughts when walking above the hills of Swansea whilst seeing the flames and destruction during the Second World War.

The choir was accompanied by Allison Thomas, indeed her first annual concert and one which the choir hope will be one of many. The guest artist Baritone Gary Griffiths supported the successful evening by performing a selection of music from many genres including the much loved Some Enchanted Evening from South Pacific, Handel’s Ombra Mai Fu and the tongue in cheek Foggy Foggy Dew by Britten.

In order to fulfil demands, the choir places considerable emphasis on the versatility and commitment of its members, therefore new members are always being sought.

Our doors are always open and we encourage new singers to come forward and join our proud organisation. Remember the first step is always the most difficult!

We rehearse on Sundays from 6pm to 8pm and Thursdays 7pm to 9pm at our headquarters in St Mary’s Street, Risca. We look forward to meeting you.
