There were 15 walkers on the nine miles walk at Blaenavon on July 25 led by Kerry Livesy, who gave a running history lesson about the area up to the present day, which included a view of large carboniferous fossil remains. 

There were nine walkers on the 13 miles circular of Dyffryn Crawnon and Tor-y-foel on July 29 led by Pat Davies. 

Here are the next few walks: 

  • Tuesday August 8 - An intermediate walk along the river Usk to Caerleon, following good tarmac paths. Return along the same path, after visiting the Roman barracks and stopping at the amphitheatre for a break. Length: 5 miles.   • Wednesday August 9 - Pant-y-Creigiau circular a difficult walk up to the summit of Pant-y-Creigiau. On a clear day you can see Pontsticill, Pentwyn and Talybont reservoirs - you might even see the steam engine passing. A stiff climb to the summit. Can be muddy after rain.  Length: 6 miles.   • Tuesday August 15 - Usk three hills circular. An intermediate countryside walk on good paths with three easy climbs and a number of stiles. You will walk up to the site of the last English - Welsh battle at Pwll Melyn, and on to Castle Wood returning over three hills along a farm access road to the grass verge on the Usk – Abergavenny road, and finishing with a river side walk. Length: 6 miles. Leader: Ken Bayliss (07583 809033).  Meet at 11am at Maryport Street North car park, Usk, NP15 1AD. Go over the bridge, take the second right at Barclays Bank, the car park is at the next right turn.
