Gwent wildlife trust

The Chepstow Group of Gwent Wildlife Trust has run two events as part of the Chepstow Festival.  The wide-ranging Festival publicity always guarantees some extra interest, but it was still startling when 60 people turned out on a very indifferent, grey evening to take part in the walk at Mathern.  Unfortunately, owing to safety concerns, it was necessary to alter the route of the walk and apologies are due to those who were disappointed in this; however, the new route followed a very scenic and interesting series of paths, making walkers and members realise what beautiful countryside lies behind the well-known roads and villages. Some handsome trees were identified,  different types of grassland discussed, and some helpful tips on bird identification were given.

Flower festival

A colorful and perfumed welcome greeted visitors to Chepstow Methodist Church’s 2008 flower festival, which was entitled, ‘Favorite Hymns’.

Club Bonjour

Ten-a-side competition

This year's annual Chepstow Rugby Club Charity Ten-A-Side Rugby Competition will, for the first time, also include a Community Charity Day. The event is held in aid of Cancer Research in Memory of Jonathon Preece.

Choir director to retire

Chepstow Male Voice Choir's talented and popular Musical Director, Brian Howard has announced that he will be retiring at the end of the year, after the choir's Christmas Concert.

Walk raises cash for cancer cause

WYE Women's Institute from Chepstow raised £139.64 for Breast Cancer Care following a successful charity walk.

Football championship

At the recent Pandy Show Llanvihangel Crucorney Primary School won the Schools Football Competition by defeating Ysgol Gymraeg y Fenni by 2 goals to one in the final. A total of nine teams took part in what is becoming one of the most popular events in the Show. More details about the Show next time.

Deaf aid

A cheque for £1000 was presented to the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People charity by the Rotary Club of Chepstow recently, to assist with the training and supply of further hearing dogs for the organization.
