‘Sickening’ Caerwent smell lifted as sewer unblocked

RESIDENTS complaining of a sewage smell outside their homes in Caerwent yesterday say they had to shut their windows because it was so bad.
It was unclear who was responsible for dealing with the issue in the Dinham Road area, described by one resident as ‘sickening’, but Dwr Cymru Welsh Water said it was aware of the problem and that it was on site treating a blocked sewer within two hours of it being reported.
A spokesman for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, which manages the land for the nearby Ministry of Defence Caerwent training base, said the problem did not occur on its land.
