ACCIDENT and emergency units at Newport’s Royal Gwent Hospital and Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny were “busy but coped” throughout the weekend’s bad weather, according to a spokesman for Aneurin Bevan Health Board.

There were higher than usual numbers of wrist and arm injuries due to people slipping in icy conditions, with waiting-times in minor injury units shorter than in A&E.

Any outpatient appointments postponed due to snow will be rescheduled as soon as possible, he said. The Welsh Ambulance Service said Friday’s snowfall caused “significant disruption across Wales”, but that it was working to provide access to all patients.

The minor injury unit at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr in Ystrad Mynach is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, while the unit at Ysbyty Aneurin Bevan in Ebbw Vale can be contacted on 01495 363318 from 9am to 6pm weekdays; Saturday 9am-1pm; closed Sunday and bank holidays.
