RESTAURANT owners have welcomed plans for Tendring to finally sign up to a national food hygiene scoring scheme.

Restaurant and takeaways in the district have welcomed plans, which sees outlets scored from zero, if they need urgent improvement, to five, for those rated very good.

Tendring Council was just one of three in England, Wales and Northern Ireland that did not adopted the scheme when it was launched by the Food Standards Agency two years ago.

The council decided not to sign up to the plans straight away, but following a consultation with restaurants, cafes and hotels, the council’s cabinet has finally decided to take up the idea.
