DEADLY duo Dean Tyler and James Wigby decimated Westow as Thixendale stormed to victory in the HPH York Vale League on Saturday.

Westow, who the previous week had beaten division two leaders Clifton Alliance, were brought down to earth in spectacular fashion.

Put in on a damp wicket, they were blown apart for just 48 by Dale’s new ball pairing of Tyler (12-8-20-5) and Wigby (8.2-4-4-4). Only two Westow men made double figures, Andy Phillips top-scoring with 16 before being run out.

Thixendale rattled off the runs in 13 overs, Oliver Medforth hitting 27. Mark Earle (3-34) took all the wickets to fall.

Malton & Old Malton’s Steve Varey grabbed 6-38 at Acomb on Sunday in division three – but it was in vain.

The York side were bowled out for 189 and Malt made a brave stab at reaching the target but lacked someone to anchor the innings. James Spencer (31), Josh Berry (29), Alistair Blacklee (24) James Langthorne (21) all made starts but Malt lost by 13 runs.

Rob Gilyeat’s great all-round performance could not save Stamford Bridge from sliding to a 73-run defeat at Bishopthorpe II in division four.

He returned figures of 8.5-0-30-6 as Bishopthorpe II were bowled out for 159. He then top scored with 32 but lacked support as Bridge were bowled out for 86 and crashed to a 73-run defeat.

Rain showers reduced Malton & Old Malton II’s division five game at Thorpe Willoughby II to 30 overs.

Malt took first knock at 3.30pm and were labouring on 65-6 before Nick Lock (19no) and Tom Pindar (16no) took them to a total of 91-6. It was never enough as Thorpe won by six wickets.
