NEWPORT Amateur Radio Society set up a radio station next to the canal at Fourteen Locks centre on Saturday as part of the nationwide ‘British Inland Waterways on the Air Event’.
Amateur radio enthusiasts who are also fans of Britain’s canals and rivers could unite both passions in the event.
A temporary mast was erected at Fourteen Locks, in Rogerstone on the outskirts of Newport, and those involved were given call signs to identify them.
There were also walkie-talkie workshops for families.
Newport’s Amateur Radio Society was formed more than 40 years ago .
