DOZENS of families got involved in giant ball workshops last week as part of the Maindee Festival celebrations.
The annual event on June 7 aims to bring people together in celebration of community spirit.
Lead by artistic director Andy O’Rourke, the workshops at Maindee Primary School ran over three days last week.
Festival secretary Alison Starling said: “Every year we have art workshops as part of the parade.
“Normally we got to schools but this year we decided to open it up to any age –from five years-old to 105.”
The balls will provide a decorative piece for the parade with those involved rolling them down the streets of Maindee.
The idea behind the artwork was in recognition of the World Cup and Rio, so the balls have taken on a Latin American theme.
To get involved in the parade, turn up to Rodney Parade at 11am on June 7 to roll a giant ball.
Or to take part in the final samba drumming class at The Blind Tiger in Newportfrom 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
The Maindee Festival is also looking for volunteers.
