Sounds like a possible road rage incident as maybe the guys both grabbed what was nearest to hand at the time - i.e. tools in the back of their vans? Either that, or it was Laurel & Hardy!

In true Newport "help you neighbour" tradition they were merely going to put up some new kitchen shelves for an old lady. And make a flap door for her giant ginger cat "Jammer". Why does everyone think the worst? Shame on you Argus.

Spot on, Police are well aware of the issues along this road, and nothing is seldom done about it, the local councillor who also lives on the road is well aware of it, but again, seldom does anything on his own patch to solve it, He would rather be off on a jolly somewhere.

This area was once great for the working classes, but has since turned into a 3rd world dumping ground, alcohol, drugs and anti social behaviour is a constant issue. The only time you see Police acting is after the event, What happened to pro-active Policing?.

The people who cause most of the trouble come from out of the area, and have run ins, with the local druggies. Time the Steriod Morons were clamped down on also... Rife in this area.

The police very rarely investigate any offences in this street, because no one see's hears, or speaks about what is happening. The decent people know that if they give a statement it will be their house that gets the next attack. No one can sell their house because of the reputation of that area, and only the scum will rent. The decent people that go out to work, pay their rates, and bills, are prisoners in their own homes. Scared to go out and complain or report these disturbances. It has been going on for years.

Sad to see the decline of what was quite a nice area where ordinary working people led decent lives and brought up good kids, you know like you were expected to, You were proud of them and they were proud of you. When the pride and self respect go so does law and order..... and fast too.
Community policing with a nice big dog would be a good start and then make parents properly responsible for siblings and heavy fines for failure. It works, honest see New York and other US cities (Detroit a notable exception but real crooks in charge helped that city's demise).
