TWO Welsh organisations have joined forces to help ex-military personnel in need of housing support.

Hire a Hero, a charity based in Pontypool, and First Choice Housing Association have created a partnership to help former soldiers access advice on housing.

Chief executive of Hire a Hero, Gerry Hill, said: “Since moving into our head office in Wales the level of support has been great. So many like-minded people are coming on board to support those who have served and our latest partnership with First Choice Housing Association will really improve on the level of support in relation to housing which we offer the service personnel who approach Hire a Hero.

"First Choice are a highly trusted organisation in Wales and beyond and we know that they will give the best advice and support to those who have served.”

Hire a Hero helps to support ex-servicemen and women with the transition from Armed Forces to civilian life with a mentoring scheme.

First Choice’s chief executive Hilary Ryan previously worked with Hire a Hero as a mentor and was keen to join the two organisations.

She said: "The great thing about military charities is that they all pull in the same direction with the common purpose of helping ex-forces personnel.

"For First Choice and Hire a Hero this is mainly about the transition from life in the military to civilian life and helping that small but significant percentage that struggle with employment or housing and signposting those that need further help.

"It has been a privilege to work with Hire a Hero and to think that we can help our ex-forces personnel in some way in recognition of what they have done for us."
