TWO people have been arrested following the death of a motorcyclist from Nantyglo after a collision on the A465 near Abergavenny.

The emergency services were called to the scene of a road traffic collision at around 12.20am this morning after a collision involving a motorcycle and a car occurred on the Westbound A465 between Llanfoist and Gilwern.

The motorcyclist, a 53 year old man from Nantyglo, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 37-year-old man from Brynmawr and a 34-year-old woman from Gilwern have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

They are currently in police custody and are assisting officers with their enquiries. The A465 between the Hardwick to and Gilwern remains closed in both directions.

Gwent Police say diversions are likely to remain in place for several hours.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to ring 101 quoting log 11 23/08/14.

Another life lost on this road. We see vehicles travelling in excess of 100 mph on this road on a daily basis but rarely see Police pulling them in or any speed cameras when they are needed.

I was quite surprised to learn that this crash was on the filwern to abergavenny stretch. The exact place is a dead flat, dead straight piece of road. One can only assume, that as you have said, there was a certain element of speed involved.

Speed is not mentioned. It is just as likely they just did not see the bike.

Can I just point out that there is a family grieving for their husband, father & grandfather, amongst other friends and family & regardless of the facts there is no need for moronic assumptions like aforementioned!! There is no need for you to put your 'spin' on the situation, facts will be or will not be revealed but just prayer & send love to family not hurt them!!!!

This comment has no relation to the deceased. It is towards the 'moronic' people who decided that fleeing the scene was the best idea

This has nothing to do with speculation. Maybe assume was the wrong word to use. It just seems that speed and driver incapability have had a part to play in the last 4 crashes between brynmawr and aber. Sorry.

My comments are not related to the motorcyclist. My sincere condolences go out to all of his family and further being a fellow biker. Its just riding this road every day, I get to see the absolutely ridiculous manouveres and speeds performed by car drivers with total disrespect to other road users. R.I.P Mr Pritchard
