TWIN sisters from Caerphilly celebrated their 103rd birthday this month becoming the UK’s oldest twins.

The sisters Florence Davies and Glenys Thomas, who are residents at HC-One Abermill Care Home in Caerphilly inherited the title of the UK’s oldest twins this month after they recently celebrated their 103rd Birthdays together along with their family, friends, fellow residents and staff.

Glenys and Florence, who were born on 22nd November 1911 and grew up in Abertridwr, were the first identical twins to be born in the Aber Valley.

The siblings spent most of their lives living next door to each other in Francis Street, Abertridwr, even building an interior door joining their two kitchens to make it even easier for them to see each other.

Between them, they have five children, twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.

Andrew Holmes, a Researcher for the Gerontology Research Group, who researches the people in the UK confirmed that they the UK’s oldest twins.

At Abermill, Glenys and Florence now have rooms a couple of doors away and enjoy spending time together in the communal lounge area.

C-One Abermill Care Home Manager, John Roberts, said: “Florence and Glenys have achieved a truly remarkable feat.

“It is so lovely to see them celebrate this milestone together and with their family and friends, we’re thrilled to be part of it.

“Also, a big thank you goes to everyone who made Florence and Glenys’s 103rd birthday so special, and to the kitchen staff for providing such a great spread of food – it really was a special day.”
