A SUPERMARKET in Ebbw Vale has donated £250 to a sports community group in Gwent.

Aldi, in Ebbw Vale, handed over the cheque to the Gwent Valleys Integrated Activities Club on Friday, January 16.

The club, which is run by volunteers every Friday at Brynteg Youth Centre, welcomes people with physical and learning disabilities to play activities including football, pool and table tennis.

The activities club is the second community group in the Ebbw Vale area to be supported by Aldi, after the supermarket launched a sponsorship deal with the Ebbw Vale Junior Rugby Club last month. The youth team now has new training kits to wear during the winter months.

Dorothy Penny MBE, from Ebbw Vale, who founded the club 37 years ago, said: “The donation has been so helpful in ensuring that we can continue our ongoing work in the area.

"We have approximately 45 people of all ages, who suffer from a range of physical and learning disabilities, attending the club each week."

Aldi assistant store manager, Nicola Downing, presented the cheque to the club. Her store in The Walk, Ebbw Vale, has now officially been re-opened after an extension last month.

Ms Downing, said: “The Gwent Valleys Integrated Activities Club does inspiring work in the Ebbw Vale community and we hope that they enjoy the donation, as well as their new-look store.”
