HUNDREDS of school pupils from across Gwent will be showcasing their science and engineering skills at the Big Bang Fair in Newport.

Pupils aged between eight and 18 have been gearing up for the show ready to compete in areas such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The fair will be taking place at the Celtic Manor on March 16 and will see sixth form students showcasing their engineering projects with local and national companies and primary school pupils competing in the South Wales finals of the F1 in Schools Primary Challenge and Jaguar Challenge.

Last year, Pontnewynydd Primary School scooped first place in the F1 in Schools challenge in South Wales, where pupils use 3D software to design a model race car.

There will also be displays from relevant companies and university departments, as well as an actual full-size model of the Bloodhound Supersonic Car which will soon be attempting the world land speed record, when it is hoped it will reach 1,000 miles per hour.
