A 35-year-old man and his 60-year-old mother from Newport have both received anti-social behaviour injunctions.

Alway officers took action following complaints about the behaviour of the duo which includes shouting abuse, threatening and using violence, causing excessive noise and disruption for local residents

Newport Magistrates Court found that Cheryl Newman and her son had acted in an anti-social manner on the dates and places detailed by the police and an order was necessary to protect the public and prevent the behaviour continuing. The two year injunction was granted on 26th June 2015.

The conditions of the injunctions state that;

They are forbidden from engaging or threatening to engage in any way capable of causing nuisance, annoyance, alarm, harassment or distress by either their words or actions to anyone, or encourage anyone else to behave in such a way in any part of Newport or Gwent.

They are forbidden from threatening or using violence towards each other or any other person in Newport or Gwent as a whole.

They are forbidden from slamming doors, shouting or making excessive noise within their property which impacts on the peace and comfort of their neighbours.

The order will run until 25th June 2017.

PC Nicola Donovan explained, ‘The anti-social behaviour of these two people is having a severe and detrimental effect on the quality of life of residents in the Alway areas. We hope that these injunctions will restrict their behaviour and if they continue to act in this way, they will face conviction and a prison sentence.’

Anyone that sees either Cheryl Newman or Stephen Newman acting in any of the above ways and breaching this injunction are asked to call 101 to report them.
