Firefighters had another busy night yesterday with several arson attempts, a kitchen fire in Chepstow and a false alarm on Newport's Millennium Bridge.

Jennie Griffiths said a “deliberately lit” refuse fire spread to and destroyed fencing on Somerset Way in Bulwark, Chepstow at 11.43pm last night.

Also in Bulwark, a casualty had to be treated for smoke inhalation following a kitchen fire at 2.41pm yesterday.

In Monmouth, a shed was deliberately set on fire on Victoria Estate 10.09pm.

Crews also responded to a car crash on Forge Road in Bassaleg when a woman was taken to hospital with suspected neck and back injuries. Read more here.

Specialist crews from Newport were also called out to the Millennium Footbridge on Usk Way at 5.42pm when boys were believed to be in danger. South Wales Fire and Rescue head of control Jennie Griffiths said that firefighters found all were safe when they arrived.
