A FUNDRAISING unused clothes sale is set to be held in memory of a Cwmbran teenager who recently lost his battle with bone cancer.

The fundraiser will be held at TK Maxx in Newport from 2.30pm on Saturday, September 5.

Money raised from the day will be split between the Velindre Cancer Centre and Cancer Research.

The fundraiser has been organised in memory of Cwmbran teenager Ryan Howell, who died at the Royal Gwent Hospital last month after one of his lungs collapsed.

Since his death Cwmbran woman Claire Jones has held a raffle in his memory at The Star Inn, raising more than £170, and has contacted TK Maxx to see if half of the proceeds from the unused clothes sale can go to the Velindre Cancer Centre in 18-year-old Ryan’s memory.

More than £600 was also raised for Velindre at a country and western fundraiser held at Cwmbran Rugby Club days after he died.

During the TK Maxx fundraiser there will also be teas, coffees and a raffle at the superstore.

Mrs Jones, who is friends with former Only Boys Aloud member Ryan’s parents, said she was now in the process of appealing for businesses to donate prizes for the raffle.

“My son was a friend of Ryan as they were both in the Only Boys Aloud choir,” she said.

“It’s very sad when a youngster passes away.

“I lost my husband to cancer and I don’t want other families to go through that.”
