HUNDREDS of people enjoyed a family fun day at the Newport Transporter Bridge over the weekend.
The annual end of season event was organised by The Friends of Newport Transporter Bridge today.
The Edwardian-themed day featured the Full Moon Morris Dancers, a stall manned by Newport Medieval Ship, face painting, refreshments, karaoke and a raffle.
Prizes included a DVD of historic buildings in Wales and books on Newport and the Transporter Bridge by the author Terry Underwood.
David Hando, secretary of The Friends of Newport Transporter Bridge, said that the event had been a huge success.
“We had lots of people enjoying themselves, climbing over the bridge and going over the gondola across the river.
"There's been a steady flow of people coming in throughout the day.
"We have been very lucky with the weather and that has helped.
“It’s been a great day.”
He added that the artist Henry Williams had also handed over his ‘magnificent’ painting to The Friends of Newport Transporter Bridge.
Visitors were encouraged to dress in costume, enjoy a ride on the gondola, a climb over the top of the bridge and visit to the engine house.
Mr Hando added: “The bridge has been the star attraction, with people going up to the top and seeing the fantastic views it has to offer.
“The gondola has also been sailing smoothly across the river."
