THE HOTEL where Cerys Yemm was killed is still on the market more than a year after her death.

The Sirhowy Arms in Argoed, which has been on the market for two years, is currently listed at £325,000 freehold on the Sidney Phillips estate agents website following a reduction in the asking price.

It's owner, Mandy Miles, said there had been a delay in selling the site.

She previously said she would see it demolished but, has now said there were no current plans for this.

She said she had hoped the Welsh Government would demolish the building, but she claimed they told her they ‘couldn’t afford it’.

Ms Yemm, who was aged 22, was found dead at the Sirhowy Arms in November 2014, after she was attacked by Matthew Williams.

Mr Williams, who was aged 34 and was staying at the hotel, also died at the scene after being tasered by police.

Speaking after a Week In Week Out documentary was aired showing the impact of the hotel on the family of Miss Yemm last year, Ms Miles said: “I’ve just decided after watching the TV programme the other night and seeing Cerys’ mother so distressed out of decency it should be demolished.”

A petition was also launched by the family of Miss Yemm to razor the site to the ground, with Islwyn MP Chris Evans writing to the First Minister backing the campaign.

The petition called The Sirhowy Arms "a constant reminder to me, my family and the local community of the event” that has “ripped the soul out of our family and affected a whole host of people”.

A spokesman from the Welsh Government said it made no commitment to purchase the property from Ms Miles.
