HUNDREDS of people braved the bad weather for the Devauden Festival over the weekend.

The festival’s seventh event kicked off on Friday night with performances from Rusty Shackle, Chwarae Teg and Little Folk.

Neville Staple Band and The Hot Knive Club carried on the party on a rather rainy Saturday, with further entertainment in the form of an inflatable slide, and over 200 stalls offering refreshments, arts and crafts.

Kevin McElroy, one of the Devauden's Community Council members, said the numbers were down on the Saturday because of the weather, but it didn't dampen the atmosphere.

"There was about 600 people on the Friday, but the rain on the Saturday didn't seem to dampen people's spirits though.

"A lot of people put on their wellies and there was a real festival vibe."

Local assembly member for Monmouth Nick Ramsay was among those to visit.

He said: “Despite the clouds opening on Saturday, everyone had great fun. We were treated to a superb performance by Monmouth and Chepstow Rock Choir which was enjoyed by all.

“This is a fantastic event in the Monmouthshire calendar. I hope it continues to go from strength to strength in the years to come.”
