CREWS from South Wales Fire and Rescue will make a special appearance on DIY SOS this evening.

The latest episode, set in Monmouth, focuses on mum-of-two Charlotte Fairlie, aged 35, who suffered a serious stroke minutes after giving birth to twins.

Despite being left with right-sided paralysis, brain damage and loss of her short term memory, Mrs Fairlie has slowly taught herself to walk again and can say a few basic words.

Last year, makers of the BBC TV show launched nine days of hard graft by local builders at the family home on Hereford Road.

More than 100 builders worked to transform the home of Charlotte and her husband Rob in Hereford Road.

The transformation included building a double-storey rear extension to create a physio room and en-suite wet room together with other adaptions to help Mrs Fairlie in her rehabilitation.

Help also came from local businesses, including Jeremy and Clare Jones, of JC Carpets & Beds of Monmouth, who fitted carpets.

As previously reported by the Argus, husband Mr Fairlie said: “We are overwhelmed, humbled and excited.”

“This has been so amazing. The community spirit has been beyond anything else I have witnessed.

The final episode will screen BBC 1 at 9pm tonight and will include an appearance from Monmouth firefighters, who helped with the project.
